f you’ve recently completed eligible studies in Australia, the Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate Visa allows you to remain in Australia temporarily to live, work and gain valuable professional experience.

Which stream should I apply for?

The Subclass 485 visa has two streams, depending on your qualifications and circumstances.

Post-Vocational Education Work Stream

This stream is generally for graduates who have completed eligible vocational qualifications in Australia.

To be eligible, you must generally:

• Hold an eligible qualification that relates to an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list

• Meet any applicable skills assessment requirements

• Satisfy the age and other visa requirements

Age requirement

Applicants are generally required to be 35 years of age or younger when applying, although different age limits may apply to eligible passport holders.

Visa duration

The length of the visa depends on your individual circumstances and eligibility.

Eligible UK and Hong Kong passport holders may be granted longer visa periods under current arrangements.

Post-Higher Education Work Stream

This stream is for graduates who have completed an eligible Australian higher education qualification, including:

• Bachelor's degree

• Bachelor's Honours degree

• Master's degree

• Doctoral (PhD) degree

Age requirement

Applicants are generally required to be 35 years of age or younger, although certain eligible passport holders may qualify under different age requirements.

Visa duration

Visa length generally depends on the qualification completed and current legislative settings.

Eligible UK and Hong Kong passport holders may qualify for longer visa validity periods.

Special rules for Indian nationals

Under the Australia–India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA), eligible Indian passport holders may be entitled to extended post-study work rights after completing eligible Australian qualifications.

The available visa period depends on the qualification completed and the requirements in force at the time of application.
