What the 417 Visa Lets You Do

With a Subclass 417 Working Holiday Visa, you can:

  • Stay in Australia for up to 12 months

  • Work while travelling throughout Australia

  • Study or train for up to 4 months

  • Leave and re-enter Australia as many times as you like while your visa is valid

Who Can Apply?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are aged between 18 and 30 years old (or up to 35 years old for eligible passport holders)

  • Hold a passport from an eligible country or jurisdiction

  • Meet the relevant Working Holiday Maker requirements for your country

  • Meet health and character requirements

  • Have sufficient funds to support yourself when you arrive in Australia (generally around AUD $5,000, plus funds for a return ticket or onward travel)

  • Meet the eligibility requirements for your Working Holiday visa type

Second & Third Year Visas

Want to extend your stay?

You may be able to apply for a second or third Working Holiday Visa if you:

  • Complete specified work in eligible industries and locations

  • Meet the required work duration requirements:

    • Second Working Holiday Visa: generally requires 3 months (88 days) of specified work

    • Third Working Holiday Visa: generally requires 6 months of specified work

  • Continue to meet all visa eligibility requirements

Eligible work may include certain types of work in industries such as:

  • Agriculture

  • Tourism and hospitality

  • Construction

  • Mining

  • Other specified industries in eligible locations
