FAQs
1. Can I apply for another visa while I'm on a Visitor Visa?
Yes, you may be able to apply for another visa while onshore — but only if your current visa does not have condition 8503 (“No Further Stay”). If this condition is attached, you must first request a waiver before applying for a different visa.
2. Can I include family members on the same application?
No. Each person, including children, must submit their own individual visa application, even if you’re travelling together as a family.
3. Can I work on a Visitor Visa?
No. You are not allowed to work in Australia on a Visitor Visa. Engaging in paid work can result in visa cancellation or future bans.
4. Can I apply for the visa more than once a year?
Yes, there is no set limit to how many times you can apply, but Immigration may question your genuine temporary entrant status if they notice frequent or extended stays.
5. What documents help strengthen a visitor visa application?
Providing strong supporting evidence improves approval chances. This includes:
A letter of invitation from a family member (if applicable)
Proof of funds (bank statements or sponsor support)
Evidence of ties to home country, such as employment, family, property, or ongoing commitments
A clear travel itinerary
6. Can I study on a Visitor Visa?
Yes, you can study or train for up to 3 months, but longer study requires a Student Visa (Subclass 500).
7. What if I need to stay longer than my visa allows?
You may be able to apply for another visa or extend your stay, but you must do so before your current visa expires — and again, only if no 8503 condition is attached.
8. Is travel insurance mandatory?
Travel insurance is not mandatory, but it’s strongly recommended, as visitor visa holders are not covered by Medicare(except for a few countries with reciprocal agreements).
9. Can I re-enter Australia multiple times on this visa?
It depends on whether your visa is single-entry or multiple-entry. This is assessed by Immigration and noted on your visa grant letter.
10. Will this visa help me get permanent residency in Australia?
No. The Visitor Visa is a temporary stay visa only and does not lead to permanent residency. However, it can sometimes be used to enter Australia while preparing for a future application, depending on your situation.
